There has been some confusion regarding the age categories we have at the Eden Street Mile Series and would like to clarify this.

On our entry form you’ll notice that we have 4 age categories:

• Sub-juniors: Born after 1 January 2002 – they would be 13 years and younger on race day.
• Juniors: Born between 1 January 1997 and 31 December 2001 – they would be between 14 and 18 years old on race day.
• Open: This category is purely based on the position that you finish. For instance, the Klein Karoo Street Mile’s ladies race was won by 16 year old Simonay Weitsz – she received both the junior ladies and open prizes.
• 40+: One prize for the first athlete above 40 year of age.

Our “Junior” category does not correspond to the ASA Junior category where 19 year old athletes are still defined as Juniors. We hope that this helped clear any misunderstanding regarding the age groups.
